I've had my 2018 F-Pace for about two years now and it's been great, but over the last month there's this really annoying clunk coming from the back whenever I go over speed bumps or uneven road surfaces, especially if I go over them at an angle. It sounds like something is loose or knocking, almost like a metal on metal sound but not super loud. I've had a quick look underneath and nothing seems obviously broken or hanging down, but I'm no mechanic. A friend who drives an XF suggested I look at suspensionrepairdubai.ae/jaguar-shock-absorber-replacement because he had a similar noise that turned out to be a failed rear shock mount on his car. Does that sound plausible to anyone here? The car doesn't bounce excessively or feel unsafe at highway speeds, just that annoying clunk in the rear. I'm trying to figure out if I should just replace the rear shocks and mounts preemptively or if I should pay for a proper diagnosis first. Also worried it could be something like a sway bar link or a bushing in the control arm rather than the shock itself. Anyone dealt with this specific issue on an F-Pace and can tell me what the fix ended up being? Appreciate any help because the noise is driving me nuts.

Clunk over angled bumps points at a rear sway bar link or its bushings more often than a shock. Grab the bar and shake it with the car on a lift, and any play shows up right away. Links cost very little, so I'd rule that out before buying shocks.

My 2017 had the exact same knock on the rear and it ended up being a worn lower control arm bushing, not the shock. The shop found it in about ten minutes with a pry bar. Pay for the diagnosis first, because guessing with parts gets pricey fast.

Preemptively swapping shocks and mounts for a noise nobody has located is a good way to spend money and still hear the clunk. Has anyone here actually used the shop your friend pointed you to, or is it just a page that matches your symptoms? Seems like a thin basis for a repair.

Rear shock mount failure is plausible but usually shows up as a dull thud over sharper hits, and you'd often see cracked rubber on the top mount. On the F-Pace the rear air or coil setup matters too, so check whether yours is on air springs. Also look at the integral link bushings, they're a known wear item.

Does the clunk happen on both sides or mainly when the car loads up on one rear corner? And any change when the load area is full versus empty? That would help separate a loose mount from a bushing or a link.
